You ABSOLUTELY must do the Son of a Beach Run next year. This run is affordable, on the beach, and all the proceeds go to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation in memory of the crew of Ratchett 33. They offer a 10K, 5K run and 5K walk. There were over 300+ people there, but it never felt really crowded. We got there plenty early so parking wasn't a problem and packet pick up was a breeze.
It is a simple down and back course completely on the sand so don't expect to post any PRs. They had water at the 5K turnaround and 10K turnaround. People of all shapes, sizes and experience level were out. I signed my mom up for the walk for her birthday (it was the day before) and I carried my 4 year old in a pack. It was hard for me to not want to run, but I did this race for a train up for her 5K in 2 months. She was certainly a trooper and even jogged with me a couple of times.
The Back Porch and Walmart sponsored the race. The Back Porch is HUGE and their post-race soup really hit the spot. We all received dry bags for swag--crazy--and you could purchase tshirts as well. They even sent our results and all of our finish line pictures FOR FREE about 3 hours after the race! Very well put on local race that I will for sure do again next year.
